It’s Friday Night and we are at the TD Garden in Boston, MA, for your live August 14th SmackDown report. Tonight, Baron Corbin defends the United States Title against Carmelo Hayes in Melo’s hometown. Jacy Jayne earned her right to challenge Tiffany Stratton for Women’s United States Championship. Damian Priest & R-Truth will defend the WWE Tag Team Titles in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match against The War Raiders and The MFTs. And tonight, will we find out if Cody Rhodes will finally get his hands on Randy Orton? Also, CM Punk and Kevin Owens are one week before their Undisputed WWE Championship Match in Toronto.
This is the live report for Friday Night SmackDown on August 14th.
We get the superstars’ entrances into the building. As we begin in the ring with the GM of SmackDown Nick Aldis. He brings out the new WWE Women’s Champion, Chelsea Green.
Aldis said he talked to medical and said he cannot let her compete with a broken eye socket. Green begs him not to say it. Aldis says it’s his job. He must ask Green to relinquish the Women’s title.
Green said she new it was too good to be true. Every time something good happens, she waits for the other shoe to drop. She was never the champion. She said Aldis knows what she sacrificed. The entire world was laughing in her face before this moment came. She made it to the top. She yells at Aldis he should understand, especially after SummerSlam. He was a champion. Finally she said, until someone takes the title off of her, the title is hers. She hands the title over to Aldis.
Aldis said as Aldis the GM he has tto do the right thing. But as Aldis the man, he doesn’t give a damn what medical thinks. Green has 30 days to get herself ready and cleared and hands the title back to her.
GUNTHER suddenly comes out. He asks why Aldis pulled the stunt he did at SummerSlam. Aldis said this isn’t the time or the place. GUNTHER asks why he added Kevin Owens to his match. He said he added GUNTHER to Kevin’s match. They’ve been negotiating Owens’ return for some time. Green gets in GUNTHER’s face that she’s the only champion.
That calls out Matt Cardna. Green backs him off. GUNTHER said there’s nothing he can do to him. Like a dog following his owner. Cardona snaps and attacks GUNTHER. GUNTHER rolls out of the ring and tells Aldis to do something about this.
After the break we get GUNTHER and Cardona in the middle of a match, with Cardona defending his wife’s honor.
GUNTHER vs Matt Cardona:
Cardona gets some early offense but is easily taken over by GUNTHER. GUNTHER takes him to the outside and slams him against the barricade, the commentary table, and the ring apron. GUNTHER is teasing Green the entire time.
Green gets up on the ring and distracts the ref as Cardona gives him a low blow and a Rough Rider, but only for a close call. GUNTHER gives Cardona two powerbombs and the Boston Crab submission for the tapout win.
WINNER: GUNTHER
Afterwards, Fatal Influence comes out. Nia Jax comes out and demands Green gives her a title match. Tiffany Stratton comes out for the save. But Fatal Influence attacks Stratton, laying her out in the ring.
Joe Tessitore and Wade Barret are our commentators tonight. We’re shown what happened on SmackDown last week with the return of Alexa Bliss and debut of NXT’s Tatum Paxley.
Backstage, Charlotte Flair and Bliss are walking, hugging it out. Since they both love each other, Bliss says Flair should be nice about the surprise Paxley has for them. She opens the door and Paxley is there with candle lights and a collage of Bliss and Flair. They go in.
After another break, we go back two weeks ago at SummerSlam when Randy Orton screwed Cody Rhodes. Then, last Friday, Orton explained he’ll make sure Rhodes will never be champion again. Rhodes said Orton is the Legend Killer. Rhodes doesn’t have to be a good guy anymore. So who kills him?
Backstage again Rhodes runs into SmackDown GM Aldis. He asks to get the match between him and Orton going on paper. He says Sunday Night’s Main Event is just around the corner. So they’ll make that happen. Sami Zayn appears. He says Rhodes is the golden boy, and he gets whatever he wants. Rhodes said Zan talks and talks. Maybe he allowed it because he felt he owed him something. He doesn’t owe Zayn anything. So if he wants to do something about it, do something about it.
Zayn said he pinned Rhodes in the middle of the ring for the championship last time they were in the ring. Rhodes challenges him tonight. Zayn shows his hurt broken hand. Aldis says If Zayb beats Rhodes tonight, he gets the winner of CM Punk vs Kevin Owens for the title.
Back in the ring, Carmelo Hayes comes out to the ring for his match.
When we come back, the United States faux fur Champion Baron Corbin arrives on his motorcycle and heads to the ring.
Baron Corbin (C) vs Carmelo Hayes:
Just as Corbin gets to ringside, Hayes Summersault Dives onto Corbin on the outside. They both get into the ring and the bell rings.
Hayes goes all over Corbin to start off. Corbin keeps trying to use his power, but Hayes is all over the place. Corbin charges Hayes and Hayes sends him to the outside. Corbin tries to get back in but Hayes hits him with a knee and a leg drop bringing him back in. Once Corbin comes back in, he catches Hayes with a Powerbomb and throws him around on the outside.
Now Corbin is in control with his power. Hayes gets some offense and a close call with a Frog Splash. But Corbin gets control back and hits the Deep Six. But Hayes gets the shoulder up in time! Two First 48’s from Hayes as he goes up top. But Corbin knocks him off and sends him back into the ring. Corbin with End Of Days for the win.
WINNER: Baron Corbin
Buit wait. Here’s Trick Williams. Lil Yachty comes up behind Corbin and hits him with the kendo stick. Corbin turns around to chase off Yachty but turns back around for a Trick Shot from Williams.
Now backstage again, Stratton and Green are chatting. Stratton says she’s fine and she’s still competing tonight.
Now, after 17 months, Kevin Owens makes his way out to the ring once more. Next week, in Toronto, he’ll get CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Next, “Cult of Personality” hits and Punk comes out to the ring to join him as KO sits on the top turnbuckle.
Punk asks if it’s great to be alive in Boston? (cheap pop).
KO says that last week they were about a foot away from each other when Punk called him a fat slob. He says 20 years ago him and Phil wrestled for the same indy promotion. Punk was the top guy, and he was just a nobody. He also doesn’t like him for other reasons, things he’s said, things he’s done. Punk says he’s going to have to be specific. KO says everyone hates him. Punk said being hated by losers is a price he pays. KO said Punk came back, made amends, and he made everything okay. But there’s one guy left who still doesn’t and will never like Punk. Because everything he does, everything he says makes him a phony. The only reason he’s here is because he screwed things up were we went before. He had no choice. While Punk was gone, KO did pretty good for himself. Won titles, became Universal Champion. And main evented WrestleMania with Stone Cold Steve Austin.
KO dares Punk to just say why he didn’t deserve all that if Punk were there to his face. Say he’s just a fat indy slob. Punk asks if that’s what he thinks of himself. Punk has a locker room full of guys who want the title. He looks at KO and he sees a lot of things. He sees a tough guy. But he also sees a wasted potential who avoided doing the work. Punk said if he did half the work Punk’s done in his career he would’ve avoided that Goldberg spear the last time he had a championship around his waist.
KO said he doesn’t want to be anything like him. He’s convinced when Punk goes home and looks in the mirror Punk hates what he sees. KO loves who he is. He’s always been the same guy he screamed at as a fat indy loser. And he’s facing him for the WWE title next week. Being like Punk probably couldn’t have helped at all as Punk couldn’t avoid that Roman Reigns spear at WrestleMania.
Punk looks at KO and he sees someone he was 20 years ago. Stubborn, loud. But he still sees the same guy. KO asks if it bothers him. He regretted for 20 years not punching him in the mouth in that locker room. He didn’t do it then, and he won’t do it now. He can wait 7 more days to beat his bitch ass.
Punk says it’s fine that he never looked up to him. Because in Toronto, he will when he puts his fat ass to sleep.
Next in Aldis’s office we see Finn Balor saying he gets why he added GUNTHER and KO to his match at SummerSlam. But a heads up would’ve been nice. GUNTHER barges in and complains about his impromptu match. GUNTHER makes fun of Balor and Balor says he was here to ask Aldis he’ll do whatever it takes to get another title shot. Even if it means going through him.
Now live in the arena, Damien Priest and R-Truth come out to the ring for their triple-threat tag team title defense.
Next, the War Raiders come out. Then the MFTs with Haku.
Damien Priest & R-Truth vs The War Raiders vs The MFTs (w/ Haku):
Chaos starts off as all six men attack each other. Everyone except Priest and Truth are on the outside. Priest hits a Cross Body on the outside with help from Truth.
Tama and Truth finally start things off. Everyone takes turns double-teaming. Eventually, Priest takes out Ivar through the barricade and one of the MFTs sends the other over the commentary table. Truth is hitting the 5 moves of doom and the 5-Knuckle Shuffle on Tama. But the MFT together double-team Truth and hit the Brother’s Keeper and win the titles.

Afterwards, the Tongas celebrate in the ring with their father Haku.
Jacy Jayne was shown walking backstage with Fatal Influence.
Back from break, Jacy Jayne is in the ring as the Women’s US champ Stratton comes out.
Tiffany Stratton vs Jacy Jayne:
Jayne starts out aggressively, ending up attacking the ribs of Stratton that are apparently injured. Eventually Green comes down to the ring to try to even the odds and cheer Stratton on.
Fatal Influence tries to get involved so Green pulled Henley off the apron. Henley and Reid were all yelling at Green, so Stratton jumped off the top with a Cross Body on Fatal Influence on the floor. When Stratton went back into the ring, Jayne hit the Rolling Encore on Stratton for the title win.
WINNER and NEW Women’s United States Champion: Jacy Jayne
Fatal Influence goes up the ramp showing off all their gold as pyros goes off.
Kelley is now backstage with Jade Cargill, B-Fab and Michin. Cargill is asked how Bliss returning change how she approaches her issues with Flair. She finds it funny that all these women can’t mind their own business. But line them all up and she’ll knock them all down. B-Fab said they’ll give Tatum a proper welcome to SmackDown.
Now back live in the arena it’s time for our main event as Rhodes comes to the ring. Commercial.
Back, and Rhodes is in the ring as Zayn comes out. It’s time for our main event with just a few minutes left. But don’t worry, because here’s Randy Orton out of nowhere and sends Rhodes into the steel post. Orton does his middle rope DDT. Zayn is only looking on at the top of the ramp in shock.
Orton goes for the RKO, but Rhodes countered into Cross Rhodes. Orton raked his eyes and sent Rhodes out of the ring. Rhodes gets nailed by the steel steps while Zayn argues with the ref. Orton and Rhodes are fighting through the crowd now. Orton brings Rhodes back to ringside and smashes him onto the commentary desk. Aldis and refs come down to try to stop this. Orton grabs a steel chair and goes onto the table. But Rhodes hits a low blow and smashes Orton’s back with the steel chair. Rhodes was about to nail Orton’s head against the steel steps with the chair when the refs interfered as the credits roll and fade to black. What a time to end it.
