Latest Updates On Legendary Commentator’s Surgery

As was reported previously, on the July 9th episode of the “Grilling JR” Podcast, the legendary commentator, “Good Ol’ JR” Jim Ross, announced he was set to undergo brain surgery. The 74-year-old explained the surgery involved drilling a hole into his skull and inserting a small tube called a shunt that will go into his stomach to help better manage and drain excess fluid from his brain; a procedure aimed at addressing the memory and balance issues he’s been dealing with.

One week ago on August 11^th, JR took to his X(Twitter) account and thanked everyone for the outpouring of support for his upcoming brain surgery that would happen the next day on August 12^th, stating he was optimistic:

On the morning of August 12^th, JR’s “Grilling JR” Podcast co-host Conrad Thompson posted an update on his own X(Twitter) account stating JR has a successful procedure. He spoke to JR’s daughter who said everything went well and hoped to be home soon. He asked to keep JR in our prayers as they hope for a speedy recovery:

They expected JR to be home that Friday, August 14^th. On August 15th, JR posted on his social media that “The proof is in the pudding,” showing off his scar from the brain surgery while still in the hospital. (link not embedded due to slightly graphic nature of the picture)

Today, August 18^th, JR made another post on his social media that he still remains hospitalized due to a full schedule of rehab and physical therapy but is one step closer to going home and appreciates all the well wishes. He also said that his goal is to work Wembley Stadium at the end of August, which is AEW’s marquee show “AEW All In: London” on August 30^th, 2026.
