The RAW Report
SLAM!

THE ONLY BLVD THROUGH THE CITY OF LOVE
WWE’s European tour makes it’s last stop this week with RAW taking place at the Accor Arena in Paris, France. Again with an afternoon, time zone approved, start time 2pm ET on Netflix. But a lot of people won’t mind because that means tonight they don’t have to compete with the NBA Game 3 finals with the New York Knicks leading the San Antonio Spurs 2-0. Danhausen’s un-curse of the Knicks continues. So, let’s get on the BLVD and start the RAW Report SLAM for June 8th.
After the typical RAW intro, some “earlier” walking of several superstars was shown. Then, a nice video package aired of the beginning of the King and Queen of the Ring Tournaments last week featuring Oba Femi, Dominik Mysterio, IYO SKY, and Raquel Rodriguez advancing to the semi-finals.
Back live at ringside, we’re going to start things off by hearing from Oba Femi as he comes out to a loud crowd in Paris. Femi says he and Paul Heyman don’t get along but they both believe there are no predictions, just spoilers. He has a spoiler. Femi says he will run through every single man in the KotR Tourney and will be the ruler, destroying whoever he needs to. He’ll take his rightful place upon his throne as the King of the Ring and that is not a prediction folks, that’s a spoiler. Femi says the ruler needs a crown and there is one trophy he has yet to collect and that’s the head of Brock Lesnar. Lesnar attacks from behind and cheats. Femi says that Heyman talks about Lesnar being a big, bad beast, but he’s been a big, bad bitch.
Dominik Mysterio for the interruption. Mysterio says Femi doesn’t rule anybody. Mysterio says Femi should be worried about him and not Lesnar, calling Femi a rookie. “Dirty” Dom is a 20-year veteran, he’s the King of the Luchadores, and when he’s KotR, he’ll rule over Femi. Dom told Femi to bend the knee and respect the ‘stache.
JD McDonagh sneaks up behind Femi and nails Femi with a chair, but Femi no-sold it. Femi attacks McDonagh but Mysterio hits a 6-1-9 on Femi and goes for a Frog Splash. Femi catches Mysterio mid-air and tosses him across the ring. McDonagh pulls Mysterio out of the ring as Femi gets back on the mic. He tells Dom that although Rey Mysterio is his father, next week Femi will be his Daddy.
ANALYSIS: Some might think “King” Femi might win. But I think Brock Lesnar will make an appearance, interfering with one of Femi’s KotR matches. Something’s gotta set up their best of three bout. Could happen in the semi-finals with Dom so their semi-finals KotR match isn’t just a Dom squash. We’ll see next week on RAW.
The Raw commentary team of Michael Cole and Corey Graves on color welcomed us to the show, while the French commentary team was at ringside.
Jackie Redmond is backstage with Seth Rollins. Redmond asks Rollins if he’s done with The Vision. Rollins says The Vision is in the past and the KotR is the present and he’ll win the tournament to take back the WHC title he never lost (he had a legit torn rotator cuff). Rollins says down the line he has a date with Roman Reigns; a man he used to call his brother. He says Reigns can’t seem to win on his own. Rollins has a message for Reigns. He wants Reigns to know that title belongs to Seth “Freakin” Rollins.
ANALYSIS: I originally picked Rollins to win the Tourney. It could happen. Even if it doesn’t, I think this promo sets up a future feud between the two former Shield bros. They need to pick up where they left off long ago.
The first match of the night is a The Queen of the Ring tournament fatal four-way. Alexa Bliss is out first. Then Chelsea Green was up next. The legendary Becky Lynch was next after losing the Women’s IC Title. Liv Morgan was up last as the Women’s World Champ. Happy 32nd birthday, Liv!
Queen of the Ring Quarterfinals: Alexa Bliss vs Chelsea Green vs Becky Lynch vs Liv Morgan
Another fast-paced exciting quarterfinals match by four top women stars. Wild finish where Bliss hits a blockbuster on Lynch then hits Sister Abigail on Morgan. Lynch jumps in and hits a manhandle slam on Bliss. Green breaks the pin and hits The Unprettier on Lynch and covers. But in comes Morgan with a jackknife pin on Green for the win.
WINNER: Liv Morgan
ANALYSIS: *** ¾ by TJR
Was said to be a fantastic job by everyone involved. Lynch was the veteran who felt like she was putting on a show to put all the others over. Nice bunch of believable near falls. And an exciting, chaotic ending with everyone hitting a finisher and attempting a pinfall until Morgan got it. I went with Lynch because she lost her IC title. But I’m good with Morgan winning, too.
Not many picked Liv Morgan to go onward in the tourney. But this sets up an interesting scenario with Morgan advancing while still the Women’s WHC. Don’t know if she’ll go all the way. Maybe someone will beat her in the QotR semi-final bracket and earn a title shot at Morgan apart from QotR.
A video package for Rey Mysterio vs Penta plays, hyping their IC title match later tonight.
We go to Penta backstage in the locker room as Chad Gable approaches him. Gable tells Penta he’s done a lot in the past two years he’s ashamed of. He’s ashamed of pretending to be a luchador because he lost to Penta when Penta debuted and he apologizes to Penta. Penta said he loves lucha libre. He said if you want to do right by lucha libre, you know who to talk to.
ANALYSIS: The WWE fans have really grabbed on to and loved the AAA Lucha Libre scene. Gable got a great reaction. Maybe this leads to Gable vs Penta, even though Gable no longer has his lucha mask.
Now Seth Rollins is approached by Montez Ford in the locker room. Ford wished Rollins good luck tonight. The Usos wander in with Jacob Fatu, with Jey warning Rollins to be careful how he speaks about the family. Jey says he’ll win KotR and take the title from Cody Rhodes (which was what his Tribal Chief told him to do). Rollins says Jimmy isn’t in the tournament and on the sidelines where Reigns wants him. Rollins said he was talking about Reigns, not the family. He says he thought The Usos were better than this, but maybe the best thing for them is being bag boys for Reigns. Jey tells Fatu to get this fool, and Fatu stands eye to eye with Rollins. But then leaves. The Usos are confused and follow Fatu.
ANALYSIS: The family feud of the Bloodline continues. Fatu told Jey last week he lost to Reigns, not Jey. So he only acknowledges Roman as his Tribal Chief. I knew it wouldn’t end anytime soon.
A promo video was shown hyping Sol Ruca defending the Women’s Intercontinental Title against Lyra Valkyria, a former Women’s IC Champion.
Lyra Valkyria speaks to Bayley backstage. Lyra said she hasn’t had gold in over a year. Bayley said that Lyra is the first Women’s IC Champion, and has accomplished so much. Bayley said she believes in Lyra and smacked her on the back.
Sol Ruca made her entrance as the Women’s IC Champion, being cheered by the fans. Then, a short break with a clip of Matt Cardona on the Cody Rhodes podcast. That was followed by Lyra Valkyria’s entrance. The ring announcer, “Amazing Hair” Alicia, did the introductions for the Women’s IC Championship Title match.
Women’s Intercontinental Championship: Sol Ruca (c) vs. Lyra Valkyria
To start the match, both women did some moves/counter-moves to show off. But the ending comes when Valkyria went for a spin kick, Ruca avoided it, Valkyria’s foot got caught in the ropes and Ruca leaped for a Sol Snatcher getting the pinfall win.
WINNER: Sol Ruca (10 minutes)
ANALYSIS: *** ¼ by TJR
A very good match. Sort of a silly finish where Valkyria got her leg snatched up in the ropes, perfectly set up for the Sol Snatcher finisher. But Ruca just won the Women’s IC Title a week ago, so it’s nice to see she’s getting a great run with it.
A video clip from last week aired when Jacob Fatu was forced to acknowledge Roman Reigns as his Tribal Chief.
That sets us up for Jacob Fatu backstage when the Usos show up. Jey wondered what Fatu was doing, and Jimmy said that they called the play so Fatu had to run it. Fatu tells them to keep it “100” and that he acknowledged Roman Reigns, not them. Fatu says to worry about LA Knight, who is talking a lot about the family.
LA Knight was shown walking to the ring backstage for a promo up next. More cameos with Maxxine Dupri in the background talking to Otis and Tozawa.
We come back from a commercial break as LA Knight made his entrance for an in-ring promo. Knight talks about his upcoming KotR qualifying match on Friday (against Balor, Keys and Jey) and says he would normally say he’ll clean house and win the King of the Ring and then fight Roman Reigns, but now he must take the landscape into consideration. He mentions all the Bloodline members possibility interfering in his match. There is a difference in how Pearce talked to Knight compared to how Pearce talked to Reigns. Knight says he might be unchosen, but the fans chose him and he chose himself. Knight said he wishes all the guys in his match luck, especially wishes Jey Uso good luck on SmackDown without calling his whole family to ringside.
Cue Jey Uso, who came down on his own. The fans were yeeting for Jey as usual. Jey did the line about how he is in your city, so Jey and the fans ran it back with some more yeeting. Jey tells Knight ’s still Main Event Jey Uso and to stay in his lane and not come for the family. He gives Knight a warning shot and tells him he’s coming out on top on Friday. Jey leaves the ring, but LA Knight told them to cut when Jey’s song was playing. Knight told Jey he’s misunderstanding him. He says he isn’t upset Jey Uso is fighting for his family. Knight wishes him luck and then said, from top to bottom, “Screw your family.” As Knight’s music plays Jey attempted to get back in the ring, but Jimmy ran down and stopped him, taking him backstage.
ANALYSIS: Knight is another favorite to win the KotR tourney. But, with the issues he’s been having with the Bloodline, especially with all these promos, I think there’s definitely some interference foreshadowing here. Maybe Jimmy comes down to take out Knight and help Jey advance. Only Friday will tell.
We cut to Chad Gable backstage who sees Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee. Lee tells Gable they’re good and Mysterio mentions Gable doesn’t need to beat himself up. Mysterio tells Gable his mask vs mask match was real Lucha Libre and tells him his apology is accepted. Mysterio tells Gable to look back at his career as he has done a lot of things he’s regretted, even before he put on that mask.
ANALYSIS: I sense a possible babyface turn. As far as his creative direction, I don’t know if Gable will stay in AAA. But, if not, it would be cool to move him back to the main roster. Whether it eventually leads to a match with Penta/Rey for the IC title only time will tell. Just don’t lose his babyface energy with the fans as they cheer him.
Back live, Penta made his entrance as the Intercontinental Champion. They went on a break as he posed.
Back from a WWE commercial, The WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio got a big ovation from the crowd. Cole mentioned Rey is a 2-time IC Champion himself.
Intercontinental Championship: Penta (c) vs Rey Mysterio
The fans were hot for both major babyfaces in this match, things starting off with lots of reversals and short pin attempts. The finale came when Mysterio countered a Penta Driver and sends Penta into the ropes and hits a 6-1-9. Mysterio comes off the top rope, but Penta gets his knees up. Penta hits the Mexican Destroyer and got the win. The announcers called it a classic.
WINNER: Penta (14 minutes)
ANALYSIS: *** by TJR
The match was a lot of fun to watch. The fast-paced action really kept the fans engaged. For the last few weeks, this match was put over to be something special. I thought it lived up to the hype, even though some might disagree. Great job by both luchas.
After the match, Mysterio and Penta hug each other after a great match. Suddenly, Ethan Page and Rusev run in and beat on Penta and Mysterio, Rusev hitting a Machka Kick on Penta while Rusev applied the Accolade on Mysterio. Dragon Lee ran down for the save, sending Page into Rusev to knock Rusev out of the ring then knocking Page to the floor. Lee tried a suicide dive, but Page grabbed him and sent Lee to the barricade. Rusev and Page get back in the ring and Rusev pulls Mysterio’s mask off. Penta covered Rey with his body on top of him as Page stomped on Penta. Chad Gable rushes to the ring for the babyface save. Gable hits multiple German Suplexes on Page and Rusev then applied the Ankle Lock on Page until Rusev pulled him out of the ring. Lee gets back in the ring with a towel to cover Mysterio’s exposed face. Gable grabs Mysterio’s mask and gives it to Penta, while Mysterio puts his mask back on.
ANALYSIS: A great moment for not only Page and Rusev to get major heat as dominant heels, but for Gable to come in as the major babyface and save the luchadores while he gets major cheers from the crowd. I think I see some character development now. Gable could very well be the one to take the IC title from Penta. If he does, let’s hope he has a great run with it.
We get a promo vid from Raquel Rodriguez as she talks about cleaning house in her QotR match. She calls out IYO SKY, saying she beat her before and she’ll do it again in their semi-finals match. She says she’s going to take the title off Rhea Ripley at SummerSlam.
We then get a peek at Talla Tonga preparing for his KotR match later tonight. Lastly, a video promo from IYO SKY plays and she replies to Raquel Rodriguez. SKY tells Rodriguez she has no honor and no heart and that she doesn’t deserve the QotR title. Asuka had entrusted SKY to look over the women’s division. SKY said she will end Raquel in the tournament and become something that Rodriguez has never been: a champion.
Here’s what’s happening next week on RAW:
- Roman Reigns is back on RAW
- King of the Ring Tournament Semifinals: Oba Femi vs. Dominik Mysterio
- Queen of the Ring Tournament Semifinals: IYO SKY vs. Raquel Rodriguez
We now go backstage where Roxanne Perez was talking to Liv Morgan about how Liv was right last week about it’s a win for the The Judgment Day that matters. Perez told Morgan she hopes Morgan gets to face Rodriguez in the QotR finals. Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh showed up. Dominik was frustrated that their plan against Oba Femi hadn’t worked earlier. Morgan said she had something in mind so they left, leaving Perez behind.
It’s Main Event time! Seth Rollins made his entrance first as the show went to another break.
Coming back, Seth’s entrance continued as the fans loudly sang his song. Talla Tonga made his entrance alone without Solo Sikoa. Ricky Saints also made his entrance. Finally, Je’Von Evans was the last man in.
King of the Ring Quarterfinals: Seth Rollins vs Talla Tonga vs Ricky Saints vs Je’Von Evans
From the very beginning, Tonga was dominant over everyone. Eventually, the other competitors realized they need to take the big man out. Lots of back and forth until Tonga came back and dominated again. Until Rollins gave him two stomps: one on the commentary table, and another on the floor. Austin Theory showed up, pulling the referee out of the ring to stop a Rollins pin attempt on Saints. Montez Ford ran down to the ring and took out Theory as they went fighting into the crowd. Bron Breakker appeared out of nowhere and hit Rollins with a Spear. Saints wanted to capitalize, but once he stood up Evans hit an OG Cutter on Saints for the three!
WINNER: Je’Von Evans (15 minutes)
ANALYSIS: *** ¾ by TJR
These fatal four-way qualifier matches keep delivering excitement and quality, in both action and storytelling. Another awesome match with a surprise twist at the end. Tonga was the obvious dominant monster for everyone else to do a good job selling for and try to get past him. Saints and Evans did a great job as opportunists while Rollins was the veteran that held most of the match together until he got screwed by The Vision.
Unfortunately, I picked Rollins to win here. But I’m not disappointed with Evans. He’s fun and exciting to watch. And the crowd seemed to like him.
After the match, Evans celebrated with the Paris fans as Rollins glares at Breakker walking backwards to the back while the end credits roll.
ANALYSIS: This is obviously going to lead to another Rollins vs Breakker match. I thought their last one happened too soon and ended their feud far too quickly. Instead of just another match, maybe Heyman can make it a stipulation or gimmick match. That would be cool.
Next week, RAW will be live back in the states from the CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, MD. Once again, here’s the card thus far (card subject to change and additions per Adam Pearce):
- World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns is advertised to appear
- King of the Ring Tournament Semifinals: Oba Femi vs. Dominik Mysterio
- Queen of the Ring Tournament Semifinals: IYO SKY vs. Raquel Rodriguez
The WWE will be back in the U.S. on Friday as SmackDown take place at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, RI. Meanwhile, go Knicks, stay on the BLVD, and see y’all next time!
